Diocesan Weekly Bulletin ANnouncements, May 21, Sixth Sunday of Easter

We pray as a diocesan family in thanksgiving for the gift of Catholic education. Lord Jesus Christ, bless students, families, teachers, staff and all those involved in Catholic education at every level. May all who share knowledge with others, follow Jesus the Teacher, in loving service, grounded in truth and love of God.

  1. May our love for God find expression in our love and care for the environment. We pray to the Lord.

  1. Help us do our utmost to heal the earth and minimize the impact of climate change. We pray to the Lord.

* CELEBRATING CATHOLIC EDUCATION – Join some 40,000 students in Saskatchewan – including 17,000-plus at Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools (GSCS) – in celebrating the gift of Catholic faith-based education, during Catholic Education Week May 23-26 and on World Catholic Education Day on Ascension Thursday, May 25, 2017.

With its distinctive, faith-based program, GSCS is Rooted in Faith, Growing in Knowledge, and Reaching Out to Transform the World. The Catholic faith is living and growing in our Catholic schools. Staff and students seek spiritual growth n many ways, through prayer, scripture study, liturgical celebrations, retreats and faith instruction. Students see and learn about God not only in religion class, but throughout every school day. Students pursue academic excellence, based on their God-given talents, with concern about the successful development of the whole child. Students learn they have the skills, talents and responsibility to reach out and make a difference in the world – to transform it by their actions! Learn more about Catholic education and GSCS at or call (306) 659-7000.

The theme of this year’s Catholic Education Week is “Finding Sabbath Moments – Growing Together as a Family.” Live your faith 24-7 Anytime Anywhere – ideas and resources for families – about acts of kindness, table talk, prayer and family fun – can be found on the GSCS website at:

The rhythm of the Contemplative Mass is a gentle, steady flow, marked by 20 minutes of silence after Communion. It is designated to allow space for reflection and recognition of the intimate presence of Christ who comes to us through scripture and the Eucharist. Silence within this form of worship can feel uncomfortable or awkward, especially when experienced for the first time. We encourage you to relax and rest in the abiding presence of God. This will be the last Contemplative mass until September. We will gather for fellowship after mass in the foyer. It would be greatly appreciated if you are attending if you would be able to bring a small dish of crackers, cheese, veggies or fruit to share. A glass of wine will be provided.

Saskatchewan Catholic Bishops address Theodore school ruling: In a letter to the faithful, Saskatchewan bishops and our Diocesan Administrator Fr. Kevin McGee encourage all those concerned about Catholic education, and parental choice of schools, to contact elected officials to endorse use of the notwithstanding clause, and to support an appeal of the court decision. You can find the complete letter from the bishops on the diocesan website: “We have much to offer, and society has much to lose if religious faith is marginalized and our values are not able to contribute to the common good,” write the bishops.

Contact your elected officials (your MLA, the Minister of Education Don Morgan, Premier Brad Wall, and Leader of the NDP Trent Wotherspoon) and let them know that you endorse the government’s decision to invoke the notwithstanding clause. You might also wish to express your hope that the government joins in appealing the recent Theodore court ruling. A list of MLAs can be found at  and additional information is available at . Write your own letter or send an email using the electronic submission form provided at
