We pray as a diocesan family for people suffering from hunger, especially those enduring famine in South Sudan, and severe food shortages in Somalia, Nigeria, and Yemen, that they may know God’s unfailing help and be sustained by Christ, the Bread of Life.

  1. For the grace to speak with integrity about today's issues on food security, poverty and the earth's deteriorating environment.   We pray to the Lord.

  1. May we recognize Jesus in our work and our life, and in the way we use the earth's resources. We pray to the Lord.

* The diocesan Catholic Pastoral Centre at the Cathedral of the Holy Family will be closed Thursday, June 15 for an annual staff planning day. Regular hours will resume Friday, June 16 (9 a.m. to noon, 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays).

* Choose Catholic Education – Register now for 2017-18

For over a century, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools has offered Catholic education for all who choose that for their children. Catholic education in Saskatchewan has never simply been schools for Catholics. A recent court decision (and subsequent appeals) has created some uncertainty for many families. We can be certain of two things: we will continue to be a welcoming community nurturing intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual growth of our students; and provincial funding for both Catholic and non-Catholic students will be in place for the foreseeable future. Register at your local school for the 2017-18 school year.

For information see or contact Emily Hill at: emilyhill [at]  or (306) 231-6011.

Duties would include basic janitorial work as well as some table and chair setup and/or takedown. Janitorial experience in a commercial environment is preferred. Must be able to follow detailed instructions and work with minimal supervision. The Cathedral offers an excellent working environment and competitive pay. Please submit your resume to Jim Nakoneshny at jim [at]

Pray - Give - Speak Out: Famine Relief Appeal - Faith leaders in Canada have launched a national appeal in response to famine in South Sudan and extreme food shortages in Yemen, northeast Nigeria and Somalia.

Bishop Douglas Crosby, President of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB), joined other Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh, and Bahá’í faith leaders in Canada in launching the national appeal in response to “one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises since the Second World War: the grim reality of multiple famines occurring simultaneously in four separate countries.”

The United Nations has declared there are 20 million people, including 1.4 million vulnerable children, at risk of death over the coming months in these four countries. This crisis is caused by ongoing armed conflicts and severe droughts, with hundreds of thousands of people being displaced from their homes and land.

The Canadian religious leaders’ “unified cry from the heart” calls for a threefold response from their faithful:

  • Pray: Remember the people of South Sudan, Somalia, northern Nigeria and Yemen in personal and community prayer, and to pray also for peace, for government leaders and for humanitarian workers in the region.
  • Give: Make a financial contribution to one or more of the various reputable Canadian aid agencies working to alleviate this crisis. Contributions made to a recognized Canadian charity between March 17 and June 30, 2017 will be matched by the Government of Canada with its recently announced “Famine Relief Fund”.
  • Speak out: Take the time to become better informed about the crisis in the four countries; to speak about it with family, friends and neighbours; to discuss it with local community agencies; and to contact Members of Parliament.

Donations can be sent electronically to any of the following Catholic aid agencies ready to forward contributions to assist efforts in the four countries:

Praise to you, Lord our God, our eternal shepherd and guide.

In your faithfulness, grant to the Diocese of Saskatoon

a shepherd whose watchful care and kindly zeal

will continue the good work of his predecessors.

In your love for us, give us a shepherd who will lead us

in being Christ’s heart of mercy,

voice of hope, and hands of justice.

May our new bishop fill our minds and hearts

with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments,

and the desire to build up your holy Church.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen
