Pastoral appointments to take effect July 3-4 announced by Bishop Donald Bolen

Bishop Donald Bolen recently announced a number of pastoral appointments in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon to take effect July 3, 2010.

 

In the Humboldt deanery, Rev. Denis Phaneuf will delay his retirement to continue serving as pastor at Cudworth and St. Benedict, and will also assume pastoral responsibility for Holy Trinity parish in Pilger.

Rev. Johny Mangaleth will provide Sunday Masses in the parishes at Marysburg, Burr and Middle Lake, in addition to continuing as associate pastor at St. Paul’s Cathedral in Saskatoon.

Rev. Darryl Millette is appointed pastor at Watson, Englefeld and St. Gregor. Deacon Bob Williston has been appointed to Holy Family Parish in Saskatoon, assisting pastor Rev. David Tumback.

Rev. Modestus Ngwu, OP, has been named pastor at Fox Valley, Burstall, Liebenthal and Richmound parishes. Presently serving as associate pastor in Humboldt, Rev. Emmanuel Azike, OP, is appointed pastor at Leader, Lancer and Prelate as of July 3.

Rev. Lawrence DeMong, OSB, is appointed pastor of St. Anne parish in Saskatoon, with Rev. Ken Beck returning from sabbatical to continue serving as pastor at Holy Spirit parish in Saskatoon.

In addition to again being appointed to the diocesan position of Vicar General, Rev. Ron Beechinor will also serve as associate pastor at Holy Spirit parish.

Rev. Jude Nzekwe is appointed Priest Moderator at St. John Bosco parish, where Theresa Winterhalt will be appointed Parish Life Director after the departure of Sr. Estelle Lavigne, PM.

Rev. Nestor Gregoire, OMI, has been appointed pastor of St. Joseph parish in Saskatoon, with the departure of Parish Life Director Mary Ann Shepel, who has served at St. Joseph for the past nine years. The present Priest Moderator at St Joseph, Rev. Raymond Senger, will continue as pastor at St. Francis Xavier parish in the city.

Rev. Iheanyi Enwerem, OP, who has been serving as administrator at the parishes in Martensville and Langham, is now formally appointed pastor.

Rev. Joseph Jacek, OMI, is appointed Priest Moderator at Allan, Colonsay and Viscount.

In the Kerrobert Deanery, the parishes at Luseland and Major will be attached to Kerrobert, and will be served by pastor Rev. George Chatholil. Present Parish Life Director Joe Kurtz will serve as part-time pastoral associate in Kerrobert, while Beverly Murphy will end her time as Parish Life Director in Kerrobert after five years of service.

The parish at Tramping Lake will be attached to Unity, with both parishes served by pastor Rev. Gerard Cooper.

Rev. Rhéal Bussière is appointed hospital chaplain at Saskatoon City Hospital and St. Paul’s Hospital, and Rev. Joseph Thangaraj is appointed hospital chaplain at Royal University Hospital and St. Paul Hospital. The Redemptorist priests at St. Mary parish will also provide weekend relief as hospital chaplains at St. Paul’s Hospital.

In making the announcements about hospital chaplaincy, Bolen expressed appreciation to Rev. Bernard de Margerie for coming out of retirement in January to assist as chaplain at St. Paul’s Hospital in Saskatoon.

Rev. Bernard Stauber, OSB, has been appointed to say daily weekday Mass at St. Mary Villa in Humboldt.

Rev. Theophilus Habadah will be returning to his home diocese of Keta-Akatsi, Ghana in August, after serving two years in the diocese of Saskatoon as hospital chaplain and as Priest Moderator to the parishes in Allan, Colonsay and Viscount.

Two diocesan seminarians will be ordained to the deaconate this summer, the next step on their journey to the priesthood. Geoffrey Young, who is studying at St. Joseph Seminary in Edmonton, will be ordained a deacon 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 26 at St. Peter’s parish in Unity. Matthew Ramsay, who is studying at Mount Angel Seminary in Oregon, will be ordained a deacon 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 29 at Holy Spirit parish in Saskatoon. Young will serve at St. Paul’s Cathedral this summer, while Ramsay will serve at Holy Spirit, before both seminarians leave in the fall for their final year of study.

Diocesan seminarian Colin Roy, who has been studying at St. Peter Seminary in London, Ontario will begin a year of pastoral internship at St. Augustine parish in Humboldt under the mentorship of pastor Rev. Emile April.

Diocesan seminarian Daniel Yasinski, who has been studying at St. Peter Seminary in London, Ontario will begin a year of pastoral internship at St. Anne parish under the mentorship of Rev. Lawrence DeMong, OSB.

Rev. Kevin McGee, pastor at St. Patrick, St. Michael and St. Peter the Apostle parishes in Saskatoon, will continue as chair of the diocesan Council of Priests, while Diane Coté will continue as chair of the Diocesan Pastoral Council.

The bishop expressed appreciation to all priests and Parish Life Directors serving the faithful in the diocese and to those assuming new responsibilities. “They have responded to the needs of the diocese with generous spirits. I ask the people in parishes and hospitals that will be receiving new pastoral leadership to warmly welcome these individuals into their midst.”
