Transitions ministry Saskatoon

TRANSITIONS is a ministry affiliated with the Office of Marriage and Family Life in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Saskatoon.  Transitions ministers to those who are separated and divorced.  Persons from other faith traditions are also welcome to attend

Transitions offers peer support through a 17-week program in which participants meet once a week to reflect on and discuss topics outlined in a handbook. Individuals have the opportunity, if they wish, to share their story with others.  Issues presented by participants during the meetings are held in confidence.

Transitions is not a drop-in program.  Participants are expected to be present at every session in order to maintain trust and confidentiality in the group.

Topics of discussion include:

  • The Process of Divorce
  • Grieving the Death of a Relationship
  • Self Image/Self Esteem
  • Dealing with Stress
  • AngerText Box: Transitions is a new ministry in the Diocese. We aim to offer the program twice a year beginning in September 2008 and the next beginning in February 2009. The group size is limited to 20 participants with 4 facilitators.
  • Guilt & Blame
  • Loneliness
  • Letting Go
  • Forgiveness
  • Fractured Families Can Be Whole
  • Growth after Divorce
  • Single Again–But Still a Parent
  • Children in Blended Families
  • Declaration of Nullity (the annulment process)

Here are some statements of past program participants from Calgary, where Transitions originated:

“The program had a positive impact.  I am now more able to cope with my life.”

“It helped to enrich my spirituality and experience the spirituality of others during these difficult times.”

“The facilitators were very understanding and supportive in giving suggestions in coping with my current situation.”

“Interacting with other group members was very helpful.  It was comforting to know that you weren’t alone.  It was good to find out how others solve their problems.”

“Sharing is important to move on and I have noticed a change in many people.”

“Being able to freely share my story made me realize I was not alone in the divorce process.”

BISHOP’S LETTER

My Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

Various reasons can unfortunately lead to the often irreparable breakdown of marriages.  Loneliness and other difficulties are often the lot of separated spouses.  Whatever your situation, we want to reach out to you with respect, solidarity, understanding and practical help, so that you can experience some degree of healing, and growth through your pain and tribulations.

It is important that you do not consider yourselves as separated from the Church. As a baptized person you can be assured that the Church is there to support you in your need.

As we journey together, let us pray for one another, encourage and sustain one another in faith and hope.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

Most Rev. Albert LeGatt
Bishop of Saskatoon
