Diocesan Weekly Bulletin Announcements, Sept. 3, 2017, 22nd Sunday of Ordinary Time

We pray as a diocesan family for all those involved in education in our schools, our homes, and our parishes. May our Loving God bless all students, parents and families, as well as the teachers, catechists, and support staff that will journey with them in the coming year.

  1. Make us wise and faithful stewards of your gifts of creation; may we serve the common good. We pray to the Lord.

  1. Help us see your wonders in all of creation, so we may serve you with reverence. We pray to the Lord.

PRAYER FOR A NEW BISHOP

Praise to you, Lord our God, our eternal shepherd and guide.

In your faithfulness, grant to the Diocese of Saskatoon

a shepherd whose watchful care and kindly zeal

will continue the good work of his predecessors.

In your love for us, give us a shepherd who will lead us

in being Christ’s heart of mercy, voice of hope, and hands of justice.

May our new bishop fill our minds and hearts

with the truth of the Gospel, the power of the sacraments,

and the desire to build up your holy Church.

We ask this through Jesus Christ, your Son and our Lord,

in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen

Orange Shirt Day will be marked Saturday, Sept. 30 across Canada.  This day grew out of “Phyllis' story” of having her shiny new orange shirt taken away on her first day of residential school. The orange shirt symbolizes all that was lost and the resilient spirit that remains. The date was chosen because it is the time of year in which children were taken from their homes to residential schools. This non-gathered event requires nothing more than to wear any orange shirt that you have on Sept. 30 and look for opportunities to explain to people why. For more information, please call: Myron Rogal, Coordinator of the Office of Justice and Peace, (306) 659-5841 or e-mail: justpeace [at] saskatoonrcdiocese.com

* Choose Catholic Education – School Starts Sept. 5 - The first day of school at all Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools is Tuesday, September 5. Find more information at www.gscs.ca/schools For over a century, Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools has offered Catholic education for all who choose that for their children. Catholic education in Saskatchewan has never simply been schools for Catholics. A recent court decision (and subsequent appeals) has created some uncertainty for many families. We can be certain of two things: we will continue to be a welcoming community nurturing intellectual, physical, emotional and spiritual growth of our students; and provincial funding for both Catholic and non-Catholic students will be in place for the foreseeable future.

* Please consider donating to a legal fund for Catholic education court appeal - The eight Catholic school boards in the province are appealing a Theodore court case ruling that would remove funding for non-Catholic students in Catholic schools. The eight boards are asking for donations to help cover the cost of the appeal. See: https://www.catholicedspirit.ca or call the local Catholic school division at (306) 659-7000 for more information.
