  • Head Custodian - Cathedral of the Holy Family, Saskatoon

    Position Overview 

    The Head Custodian, reporting to the Facilities Manager, provides maintenance, setup and cleaning services at the Cathedral facility, working in conjunction with other custodial staff. As building operator, the Head Custodian is responsible for the maintenance, repair, cleaning and adjustment of all building systems and the general maintenance of the facility. He/she will ensure that the facility is clean, safe and presentable. 

    The Head Custodian will be responsible for event setup in the Banquet Hall and meeting rooms, ensuring that proper preparations have been carried out for all scheduled activities. The individual will also oversee the cathedral grounds, doing some yard work and light snow clearing, conduct routine tool and equipment maintenance and other duties as required. 

    The Head Custodian is an integral member of the staff team. They are to conduct themselves in a courteous and professional manner in dealing with other staff, volunteers and the public. They must also demonstrate appropriate respect for the sacred elements within the building. The Head Custodian must be self-reliant and able to plan their daily work schedule around various events taking place in the facility. They must also be adaptable and be able to accommodate sudden changes in the schedule.  

    Compensation 

    • Salary is in accordance with the Diocesan Custodial & Building Maintenance Salary Grid
    • Extended medical and dental benefits
    • Defined contribution pension plan 

    Job Specification 

    • 3 to 5 years’ experience as a caretaker/building operator, preferably in an institutional setting (e.g., school, hospital, convention centre etc.), with a working knowledge of plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
    • 5th Class Power Engineer certification required. Additional certifications would be an asset
    • Demonstrated task-related problem-solving and decision-making skills
    • Demonstrated ability to carry out tasks related to cleaning, moving items and doing maintenance work for sustained periods-of-time
    • Must have the ability to follow complex written and verbal instructions in English
    • Lift operator’s certificate, while not a pre-employment requirement, is an asset
    • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft programs

    The Diocese of Nelson Welcomes Applications for the Position of Diocesan Director of Faith Formation (based in Kelowna, BC)

    The Director of Faith Formation is responsible to the Bishop in designing and implementing programs for adult faith formation, children’s catechetics and sacramental preparation for use in the diocese and in supporting the ministry of the laity. The Office is based in Kelowna but will require travel to the various regions of the diocese.

    The Director works in collaboration with:

    • The Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the faith development of staff.

    • Parish pastoral teams.

    • The Diocesan Religious Education and Adult Faith Formation Committees.

    •  The Diocesan Finance Office (Budgeting).

      Requirements:

    • A Master’s Degree in Religious Education or Theology or equivalent

    • A demonstrated commitment to the Church, her teachings and authority.

    • Familiarity with children’s catechetics and adult models of faith formation.

    • Steeped in the principles of The General Directory for Catechesis and On Good Soil.

    • Evidence of effective leadership, communication and facilitation skills.

    • Proven ability to work collaboratively for a common vision.

    • Proficiency with technology, including Microsoft Office.
