100th Anniversary of Fatima - film screening

100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima - In honour of the 100th Anniversary of the first apparition Our Lady of Fatima on May 13 1917 to three small shepherd children in Portugal -- Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta -- in a little cova in Portugal, asking them to pray the rosary in devotion to her Immaculate Heart, in reparation for sin, for world peace and the salvation of souls. Our diocese will be celebrating the 100th anniversarywith a number of events April 30-May 13, 2017.

  • Sunday, April 30, 7 p.m. – View the Oscar-nominated film The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima at the youth room of the Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon – open to young and old, admission by donation. 
  • Sunday, May 7 – View the animated movie The Day the Sun Danced (time and location to be announced).
  • Thursday, May 11, 7 p.m. – Family Holy Hour with Eucharistic Adoration and the Sung Rosary by “The Little Flowers” at St. Philip Neri parish, 1904 Munroe Avenue, Saskatoon.
  • Friday, May 12, 7 p.m. – The Story of Fatima evening of prayer, rosary and a candlelight procession at Cathedral of the Holy Family, 123 Nelson Road, Saskatoon.
  • Saturday, May 13, 2 p.m. – Mass at St. Mary’s Parish, 211 Avenue O South, Saskatoon, in honour of the anniversary of the first apparition of Our Lady in Fatima 100 years ago, with Fr. Kevin McGee presiding, followed by an outdoor procession, before a gathering in St. Mary’s Hall for refreshments and entertainment.

Participation from volunteers, cultural groups, schools and all parishes in the diocese of Saskatoon is welcomed and encouraged! 

Note: Two of the young shepherds – Francisco and Jacinta Marto – will be canonized by Pope Francis on May 13, 2017 at a Mass in Fatima, on the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s first appearance to the three children. Francisco died in April 1919 at the age of 10 and Jacinta died in February 1920 at the age of 9. The third young shepherd, Lucia Santos, grew up to become Sister Maria Lucia of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart – she died in 2005 at the age of 97.
