Vanscoy, SK: Good Friday Tenebrae concert of sung prayer

Good Friday The Divine Office of Tenebrae: A Concert of Sung Prayer led by the Ecumenical Choir of Saskatoon with choral works by Orlando Di Lasso, Jacquet De Berchem, Aristotle Esguerra, Giovanni Palestrina and Holy Scriptures sung in English and Latin, 7:30 p.m., Good Friday, April 14 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Vanscoy, SK.

Ecumenical Choir of Saskatoon members are from various Christian denominations in Saskatoon & area, and our repertoire is sacred polyphony, choral works, and chant from various traditions.  We have provided choir music for a wide range of events from Catholic masses, to Orthodox vespers, to ecumenical services and church fundraisers.  We rehearse at Christ Church Anglican in Saskatoon.  Our choir directors are Ted Engel and Renee de Moissac, both of Christ Church Anglican. This year we are again singing a Tenebrae service at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Vanscoy, SK at 7:30 PM on Good Friday.  The service will follow the Office of Tenebrae used at the Cathedral Basilica of St Louis in St Louis, Missouri.  A unique feature of the Tenebrae service is the extinguishing of a candle after each psalm, canticle, reading, choral work.   There are 15 candles alighting the sanctuary of the church, and by the end of the service all are extinguished, signifying Christ entering the tomb.
